Detailed Decription

After using the United States Golf Association's official "The Rules of Golf" handbook for several years, we have often found it awkward to use while on the course. Its awkwardness is caused by, but not limited to:

  1. An inability to rapidly identify the relevant ruling for the course situation in question
  2. The difficulty in searching for the definition of relevant rule specific phrases (e.g., ball in play)
  3. The lack of a simple process to bookmark and label rule text for ready reference
  4. The inconvenience of reading rules that reference other rules and flipping to those pages while keeping the original rule in context

Dyer Enterprises has determined that many of these inefficiencies could be resolved by creating an electronic book (eBook) on "The Rules of Golf." This eBook would give golfers easier, more intuitive access to the rules of golf. For example, if players want information on the correct "Order of Play", all they need do is bring up the eBook's table of contents, click on Rule 10 and it will take them directly to the rule.

Key words and phrases like "teeing ground", "ball in play" and "competitor" are cross-referenced with their definitions, so that a reader can rapidly locate the definition and then return to the original text. Furthermore, when other relevant rules are referenced within a given rule, they are also cross-referenced so that in a single click a player can read the additional rules affecting the current rule, and then go back to the original rule.
